(6 module points) This module has been designed to enable the student to gain insights into people and their behaviour and ways this knowledge can be used in everyday professional practice.
(5 module points) In this module, students will gain insights into the social and cultural context in which leisure and recreation services are provided to specific client groups.
(5 module points) This module will provide students with an introduction to the human body, its anatomy and physiology. On the basis of this information students will be able to identify the principal systems of the human body. Homeostasis will be explained. The importance of the body's feedback system and its role in monitoring homeostasis will be explored.
(6 module points) This module will introduce students to the causes and common effects of physical disability. Students will be able to identify barriers for these clients to participation in recreation and leisure programs and explain the benefits of participating in recreation and leisure programs.
(5 module points) The module will introduce the student to the profession of diversional therapy and provide the student with an understanding of the key concepts and factors that impact on professional practice. This subject will provide a conceptual basis for practice in the area of diversional therapy.
This module will provide students with the skills and knowledge to facilitate a range of language and arts based activities, and to develop the skills and strategies required to encourage participation and involvement of clients in these activities and in their community.
(5 module points) Students will develop skills necessary for the facilitation of client involvement in leisure and recreation programs. Emphasis is placed on issues related to the design of programs, including program modification, effective implementation and evaluation.
(4 module points) The purpose of this module is to assist learners to develop the skills required to communicate professionally with a range of people in a wide variety of work situations in the community services and health industry.
(15 module points) The purpose of this module is to provide an opportunity for learners to implement the knowledge and skills specific to the recreation and health/diversional therapy profession. The module further aims to develop, integrate and apply learning from a variety of modules in the course in a vocational setting, and to implement a range of skills and knowledge in a practical workplace setting.
(6 module points) This module will provide the learner with a broad understanding of aspects of human psychology, especially those related to personal perceptions of wellness, illness and disability, as well as providing competencies which will enable the learner to apply learned skills and knowledge to their professional practice. Student will gain competencies which will enable them to respond in a helping way in situations requiring advanced communication skills.
(5 module points) This module has been designed to explain the social and cultural context in which the Australian Community Services and Health industry and its client groups exist and to examine the relationship between culture and the provision of recreation and leisure services.
(5 module points) This module will provide the student with an opportunity to undertake study in four topic areas covering contemporary issues in health and human biology. Students will achieve confidence in dealing with biological based material, understand scientifically technical language and interpret biologically based data. It is anticipated that the topic areas studied will be of particular interest to students in their professional practice.
(6 module points) In this module students will be provided with an understanding of the role of recreation for people with a developmental disability and for people who experience mental health problems.
(4 module points) Students will be provided with an introduction to the study of leisure. Students will become aware of the necessary components of a leisure experience and thus be able to develop leisure programs to meet individual client needs.
(4 module points) An understanding of the leisure education and counselling process will be provided to students to equip them to implement such programs with individual clients. Students will explore activities to facilitate client awareness of their leisure attitudes, preferences and skills. Procedures for adapting leisure education programs to specific client needs will also be explored.

Students will gain the knowledge and skills to be able to plan, implement, evaluate and document accordingly to meet specific client's leisure and recreational needs.
(16 module points) The purpose of this module is to provide an opportunity for learners to implement the knowledge and skills specific to the diversional therapy profession. The module further aims to develop, integrate and apply learning from a variety of modules in the course in a vocational setting, and to implement a range of skills and knowledge in a practical workplace setting.
(4 module points) This module will introduce students to issues faced by people as they age. Students will be able to identify the biological, cognitive and psychological effects of aging and the importance of leisure in the life of the older person.
(4 module points) This module will introduce students to the concepts of community development using community arts or community recreation as a tool. Students will be able to facilitate a community development project acting as a community advocate or facilitator and monitor and evaluate the facilitation processes and outcomes.
(4 module points) This module aims to provide students with an understanding of issues related to palliative care, grief and loss and the leisure and recreation needs of a person with a terminal illness.
